Compass Rose Generator
All the actions and options are accessible via the context menu (right-click anywhere).
Hot keys (click the rose first to use them):

| S | open "Style" dialog |
| V | toggle vignetting |
| W | toggle NESW labels |
| L | toggle fleur-de-lis |
| F | invert arrows shading |
| T | toggle thin lines |
| P | download image as a 2560x2560 PNG file |
On touch devices tap the rose to generate a new one.
Art style and palettes:
| M | toggle drawing mode: normal/no outline/gradient |
| 1-9 | predefined palettes |
| 0 | random palette |
You can use images created by the generator as you like: copy, modify, include in your commercial rpg adventures etc. Attribution is appreciated, but not required. Please consider supporting this project on Patreon☕!

You should include the option to change the direction of the north, for maps that doesn't align with regular compass roses. Great generator!

Have you ever considered creating a holy geometry generator? It would be super useful for like arcane magic systems and religious orders.
It's an interesting topic, but real-life holy/mystic symbols are very diverse. What kind of symbols are you looking for? There is "astrological symbols" item on my long list of ideas for generators, this one I may try implementing one day :)
I would love to see something that could generate symbols like these.

As always, I thank you for providing us all such useful content gratis. Do you know if there is an easy way to plonk in our OWN cardinal direction letters in lieu of simply making "NSEW" disappear?
The easiest way is to hide those letters and draw your own in Photoshop :)
But I'll make a note for the next time I update this generator to implement something like this.

Pressing F on web re-generates the whole compass instead of just removing the fleur, is this intended?

If I could download these images with transparent backgrounds I would use them in my games :D
Since the backgrounds are a single color, it shouldn't be too hard to just remove them with photoshop or gimp.

In fact, no.
Transparency is always progressive in decent png images (it takes a few pixels going from 255 to 0). And u can't correct that with any built in tool in photoshop etc...
It demands either some time (5 minutes mini for this kind of images) or some smart programming.
Also, the plan in using a "generator" is often to get many many version of it.

Consider adding even a SLIGHT LITTLE support for at least background transparency, because i get that supporting the other colors transparency is hard + kinda useless :
PLEASE support the " fill-opacity=" in the custom palettes, even only for background, again !

I'll try to do it when I get back to this generator (although it's a bit harder than it probably seems). Meanwhile for me personally the easiest way to place a rose on a map it to switch to the a b/w palette and set the blending mode of the layer to "multiply" (or similar).
Transparency would be wonderful; SVG export would be even better. Thanks for making this, regardless.

I wish there was a way to save the Compass Rose you make as a PNG
there is, just right click and save. On a phone just use two fingers I believe.
As ortish said you can do it through the context menu. I will probably implement export to PNG (in high resolution) and/or SVG later.
Hot keys don't function. Do I have to do something to turn them on?
You may need to click the generator window first (to let it get the input focus).
