Created for /r/proceduralgeneration's monthly challenge.

All the options are now accessible via the context menu (right-click anywhere on the generator).

Hot keys (click the generator first to use them):

  • Enter - generate a new tank
  • Space - redraw the tank from a slightly different angle
  • S - toggle the shading mode
Warning: for some reason the "fineliner" drawing mode works extremely slow with the "hatching" shading mode - on my computer it takes up to 3 seconds to draw a tank. I'll try to fix it as soon as possible.

Drawing modes:

  1. Fineliner
  2. Marker
  3. Fountain pen
  4. Ink brush
  5. Pencil
  6. Sanguine
  7. Scribble
  8. Random

It came up with an artillery piece, wow! It's amazing what can be achieved by AI these days, imagine what we will have in a decade from now?

pls make a four types of technic: Tank, apc, infantry combat vehicle, anti - aircraft machine. Also can you edit a historical time for technic? Because usually tanks look likes a interbellum or WW1 machines, but many pf us would like to see WW2, Cold war and Modern tanks. And Thank you!

Now make a Warship Generator

?????????????????

this is a real killing machine

Can we use these generated images in any way we like? Thanks.

I hate to complain about awesome free stuff, but...  Is there any way to make the hatching go right to the corner (when using styles like Fineliner), please?

Regardless, I love this!  They look especially good in negative image, placed on top of a blue paper texture to look like a blueprint.  The cutest little armoured killing machines!A tank where the hatching is a bit dodgy.

Fineliner style. 6183.png, if the filename is the random seed or something.

Hello Watabou could you make a car generator like your tank generator but from profile i want to make 3d model of cars for a game i'm making (for now i'm really at the begining) so i do not want to copy real car brand to make my vehicle (l'il post this in comment in different itch.io webpage of your generator so you will find my comments more easily)

OpenFL was made for developers who are used to creating games in Flash. Flash is not available anymore but with OpenFL you can use the same approach and exactly the same API for creating games (and other applications) for more or less any platform (HTML, Windows, Mac, some consoles).

Wow.... amazing .  I'm very curious about how you make the hand-draw brush style, what tech do you use? Or did you plan open source your code?

Thank you.

Each model is made of simple shapes (prisms, cylinders etc.), which I know how to draw from different angles. Because not much concavity is involved, I can z-sort them easily and as a result no real 3D techniques are required, this all is just polygons. To make them look hand-draw I use several methods: I resample my polygons (most visibly in the Pencil mode), distort slightly (or not so slightly as in the Scribble mode), overlay multiple times (Sanguine). Also I use strokes of variable thickness (Ink brush). That's it more or less.

WOAH THIS IS AMAZING

um... where exactly do we download the program/game? am i just stoopid or is the button hidden.

The generator runs in your browser. Click the tank to set focus on it, then press Enter to generate another one.

oh ok thanks

(+1)

very nice. i have noticed that many of them look like r2d2 from star wars. keep making cool generators like this.

(+1)

Can the images from this be used in commercial products?

(+1)

Yes, they can.

(+1)

Thanks!

(+1)

Hey man is it alright if i use these for a worldanvil world im making?

(+1)

Yep

Thanks

One of the randomly generated Tanks.

"Tank" that has only one set of wheels, which have a vertical offset, so that only one wheel is on the ground at a time? It has a massive cannon, 2 antennas and the number 44 painted on the diamond shaped hull.
I love that each tank you generate has quite a personality. I can imagine, that this "tank" would actually be towed by a tractor or a sidecar to a motorcycle.
(+2)

Wonderful! Never stop making these fun little tools. :)

(+1)

This is lots of fun, and handy for quick inspiration! Will this be expanded to include user generated tanks (ie, the user picks the individual parts)?

(+1)

Thanks!

I don't think I'm going to develop it any further. It's just a small toy made for a jam...

(+2)

Understandable! Toy or not, thanks for making this. :D

these tanks are sooo cute ! and it's eye-opening to see how much can be done in such a minimalist style . seeing the same figure being drawn from all these orthographic angles with varying brushes and shading methods has actually given me a few ideas on how to improve my art too so thanks!

(+3)

also ... bipedal counterbalanced sniper tank is best tank

(+2)

Glad it was of some use after all :)

Thanks! I will add PNG export soon. SVG export is also possible, but it's a bit bigger task...

Hello Oleg, very impressed with all the things you have done. I am reaching you because I am in the process of creating a game, I am not a developer, what I do is game design. I would like to reach you and discuss about my idea, and how you can leverage your games into the blockchain technology. I have some friends (blockchain developers) that we can hook up with. I would like to have a conversation with you about it. Please reach me at jifigueroa2@protonmail.com   Just followed on Twitter my handle is @NFigx

Best.

Ignacio

Hi Ignacio,

Sorry, I'm not interested in blockchain. Cheers!

This is absolutely delightful! Some of the hovertanks look utterly ridiculous, but it's a great kind of ridiculous, and I can totally see myself using some of the sketches if I end up getting an excuse to put tanks in any sort of rpg I run.

This one looks very duck-shaped and I love it.

(+1)

Sticking with only sensible (or menacing) designs wouldn't provide enough variety :)

(+1)

Could you add an option to remove the ground?

(+1)

The ability to show portions of the tank separately, and the ability to generate and save the turret portion rotated in 15 degree integrals, if possible would also allow this program to be used for 2D video games off the bat.

(+1)

Could you add a front view and a side view (and maybe a top view)?
To quickly create 3D models based on these views.

(+4)

Side view and front view are [ and ] keys respectively.

(+5)

I used to drive a tank for a living. I love tanks.

This is a thing of beauty you've created here. A thing of beauty.

(+2)

An absolute masterpiece, i am so blown away by this.

(+2)

Love it!  Make an Ian McQue Sketch Generator!  ;D  Hehehe.

Nice! That will be my plan if they ever have a "flying boat" as a theme :D

(+1)

Fantastic!

I love your stuff so much. It's awesome. :)

It's a nice touch that if you press a numeral once again, you'd get a slightly different rendition of the same style, it's brilliant. :)

(+2)

Amazing!

(+1)

Mindblowind!

(+1)

I love it!!

(+3)

Incredible. The tanks would be awesome alone, but the different drawing styles just boggles my mind.

(+3)

This is wonderful! Agree, quality of renderings and variations is off the charts for something so (seemingly)simple & elegant. T(h)anks.

(+3)

Incredibly well done! I'm actually surprised by the quality of the tanks generated. The drawing modes were a fantastic addition too!

Keep it up! I love your submissions =D

(+3)

Hey watabou :D

I like most of the games / generators that you have made over time. But this one... I am blown away

Visuals are top great too ;)

Well done
